My history class is currently studying the roles of women and attitudes towards them in the 1900s, and if I didn't know the date I would have thought we were learning about right now. Most of the guys in the class are so ridiculously sexist, it's unbelievable. I don't really understand how people can think so closed-mindedly. The fault can only lie with the parents. From my experience, children that have been brought up in broken families are more likely to be one of the boys in my history class. I don't know whether it's because they want to take out their anger about the break-up/divorce of their parents on someone else, or whether it's because their parents genuinely think like that and, therefore, have passed their thoughts onto their children.
Unfortunately, I have had the misfortune of meeting the father of one of the said boys. He is such a typically disgusting human, and now I understand why his son is such a sexist cretin.
It seems alien to me that people can genuinely think that women are inferior; women can do any job that men can do, and vice versa. Women can be builders, women can be members of Parliament, women can join the Army.
Some of the things these guys say are simply ridiculous; "a woman's place is in the kitchen" "women can't go to work" "women shouldn't be allowed to vote" "women should stay at home and look after children" "women are only here to please men."
I would hate for my children to grow up like that, I would be embarrassed if my children grew up like that. How people can be proud of their children talking like that is completely beyond my inferior female mind.
Women are completely capable of doing all the male orientated jobs, as much as men are of doing female orientated jobs.
